Oranga Tamariki – Ministry for Children takes security, privacy, and appropriate conduct on our social media platforms seriously to protect the safety of tamariki, rangatahi, whānau and kaimahi.

Social media terms and conditions

Oranga Tamariki is a New Zealand government agency. We are dedicated to supporting any tamaiti in New Zealand whose oranga is at significant risk of harm now, or in the future.

Purpose of Oranga Tamariki social media accounts

We use our pages on Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram to post the following information:

  • Who we are and what we do
  • Media releases and other news
  • Consultations
  • Public service announcements and emergency information.

Protecting your privacy (and the privacy of others)

Please do not share any of your own, or anyone else’s, private information on Oranga Tamariki social media pages (including in private messages, if applicable).

Terms of use

We welcome your feedback and ask you to be respectful in your comments and your opinion of others' comments. Please stay on topic and do not upload content or post comments that are unrelated to the purpose of Oranga Tamariki social media pages as stated above.

Do not use language or post content that:

  • is, or appears to be, spam or contains a virus
  • is in any way discriminatory
  • contains insults or put downs
  • is likely to be seen by others as offensive, inflammatory or provocative (including swearing and obscene or vulgar comments)
  • contains potentially harmful advice
  • is not accurate
  • violates the Terms of Use of the platform where it is being posted
  • breaks the law or encourages others to do so (this includes defamation, breaching privacy, breaching another person’s intellectual property rights such as copyright, condoning illegal activity and breaching any court orders).

In the course of using the community areas of Oranga Tamariki social media pages, don't post personal information – addresses, phone numbers, email addresses or other online contact details – relating either to you or other individuals. Don't impersonate or falsely claim to represent a person or an organisation. Don't make any commercial endorsement or promotion of any product, service or publication.

Endorsement

Oranga Tamariki doesn't necessarily endorse any website or organisation, which Oranga Tamariki social media pages post links to/repost etc.

Oranga Tamariki social media pages liking, reacting to, engaging with or sharing information does not constitute an endorsement or recommendation from Oranga Tamariki, it is solely for the purpose of sharing information.

Private messages

Removing comments or banning users

Any comments or posts that breach the above terms will be removed by Oranga Tamariki. If a user violates this policy, that user may be temporarily or permanently blocked from posting in the future. Oranga Tamariki accepts no liability in any way connected to the use of, or access to, Oranga Tamariki social media pages.

Monitoring outside of business hours

Oranga Tamariki social media pages may be monitored outside of business hours.

However, please do not use our pages to contact us if you are worried about a tamaiti or rangatahi.
